How to Calculate Your Life Path Number by Hand
While the calculator above does the math for you, here is the traditional step-by-step method so you can verify your result or calculate for someone else.
Step 1: Reduce your birth month to a single digit
Take your birth month number and add its digits together. For example, December is month 12: 1 + 2 = 3. Single-digit months (1–9) stay as they are.
Step 2: Reduce your birth day to a single digit
Add the digits of your birth day together. For example, if you were born on the 29th: 2 + 9 = 11. Important: if you get 11, 22, or 33, keep it as is — these are master numbers.
Step 3: Reduce your birth year to a single digit
Add all four digits of your birth year together, then reduce. For example, 1990: 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19, then 1 + 9 = 10, then 1 + 0 = 1.
Step 4: Add the three reduced numbers together
Sum the results from steps 1, 2, and 3. For a December 29, 1990 birthday: 3 + 11 + 1 = 15.
Step 5: Reduce the final sum to a single digit
Add the digits of the sum together: 1 + 5 = 6. Your life path number is 6. Exception: if your sum is 11, 22, or 33, do not reduce further — you have a master number.
